Rexona Begum (30) wants to brighten their children’s future in the climate vulnerable area in southwest coastal region of Bangladesh. Rexona Begum lives with her husband and two kids in the Kadamtala village situated in Munshigonj union of Shayamnagar upazila under Satkhira district. They have 16.5 decimal homesteads land only. They lead their life nicely though they have poverty. But in the village attacked by super cyclone AILA in 2009. During AILA, Rexona Begum and her family fall in trouble condition due to loss of house and source of livelihoods. Salinity ingress in soil and water and they could not cultivate vegetable in their homesteads land. They could not run their family due to irregular income. In 2013, LEDARS started to implement SLSCCVP (Strengthening Livelihood Security of Climate Change Vulnerable People) project by the financial support of Bread for the world. Through the assessment process, Rexona Begum was selected as a project beneficiary under Sonarbangla climate resilient group. She was selected a climate vulnerable family and supported for alternative income generating activities. She selected poultry rearing and got skill training and 23,000 taka as financial support from LEDARS. She also manages some loan money from local NGOs. 1st year, she earned 50,000 takas and in 2016 she earned 100,000 taka profit. She has a big firm with 400 poultry. Besides this, they are producing vegetable and rice in their tiny land which reduces the family expenditure. She has repaired her house, set up a rainwater harvesting system and bought color TV. Now she is capable to lead her family maintaining expense such as children education, cloths, medicine, keep regular saving, etc. She feels dignity in her family and the earning empower her. She wants to make a happy family and educate their children.
