LEDARS has distributed seeds to cultivate paddy and other crops in dry season in coastal area of Bangladesh as second crop. LEDARS organized a program to distribute seed and fertilizer to 280 marginal farmers of the sub-district Shyamnagar on 26 November 2014. The program is presided over by the Executive Director of LEDARS, Mr. Mohon Kumar Mondal. LEDARS is implementing “Strengthening Livelihood Security of Climate Change Vulnerable People” with the help of ‘Bread for the World’ in Kashimari, Munshigonj and Gabura of Shyamnagar sub-district.
Depending upon demand and possession of land, beneficiaries receive 2000 kg of potatoes, 36 kg of mustard, 40 kg of wheat, 250 kg of onion, 8 kg of garlic, 50 kg of pulses, and 7 kg of sunflower seeds.
To increase production in one cropped areas in dry season, LEDARS has extended its support for farmers to transition from homestead gardening to open field cultivation, using the little amount of water that has remained on the soil after harvesting Amon paddy. The chief guest is the Assistant Commissioner of Land Ahsanullah Shorifi, special guest is agriculture officer Mizan Mahmud, Project coordinator of LEDARS Md. Mozirul Islam Mithu etc. The chief guest said to the beneficiaries that they had to cultivate seeds in that way they were trained. If they can do this properly, production will increase which thus increasing earnings and food security for the farmers.
