LEDARS(Local Environment Development and Agricultural Research Society) have been implementing the “Emergency assistance to highly vulnerable HHs affected by Cyclone Amphan and Covid-19 in Satkhira District, Bangladesh” Project in 11 union of Kaliganj and Shyamnagar Upazila of Satkhira District with the support of Irish Aid & Christian Aid, Bangladesh. LEDARS is implementing this project with the participation of severely affected households by Cyclone Amphan and COVID-19 situation. The project has targeted 1230 beneficiaries from 5 Unions of Shygamnagar Upazila and 1380 beneficiaries from 6 Unions of Kaliganj Upazila of Satkhira district. Assistant Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Satkhira has inaugurated the multi-purposes cash transfer to the beneficiaries on 30 July, 2020 in his office by using the bKash app. Honorable ADC of Satkhira highly appreciates this cash support of LEDARS. Executive Director of LEDARS, journalist, and civil society people were present during multi-purposes cash transfer. Each of the selected beneficiaries will receive BDT 3,000.

A total of BDT 7,830,000 taka has been distributed among 2610 beneficiaries. The multi-purpose cash transference has the flexibility to meet the basic needs of the Cyclone Amphan and COVID-19 affected people in a dignified manner, re-enforcing HHs to repair damaged houses, purchase food, medicine, and other essential items and reduce the probability of being affected of them by adopting appropriate coping mechanisms. 5 local CSOs are assisting LEDARS at field level to implement the project as partner.
