The southwest coastal area of Bangladesh is highly affected to climate change. Cyclones, tidal surges, breach of embankments, excess rainfall in short period, erratic rainfall, drought and increasing salinity are pushing the coastal people to vulnerabilities. A slow onset disaster is grabbing all the dreams and hop from of coastal people. The progress of the country is remarkable, but the southwest coastal area is always deprived from development. In this situation coastal people are demanding support from government and international agencies, but no agencies have taken satisfactory initiatives for the sustainable development of the peoples of southwest coastal area.
LEDARs is working on the climate justice issue since 2003. Considering the situation of coastal people, LEDARS is extending the climate justice just movement in Satkhira, Khulna and Bagehot district. In this connection LEDARS has been organized the civil society in those district by the name of Climate Advocacy Forum. LEDARS form the forum in Satkhira district at November 23, 2020 and Bagerhat district at November 26, 2020.
Former Principal Mr. Abdul Hamid presided over the meeting in Satkhira. Prominent personalities of Satkhira Md. Anisur Rahim, Convener of Satkhira District Citizens Committee, Mr. Mohon Kumar Mondal, Executive Director of LEDARS, Mr. Nityananda Sarkar, Mr. Mobasherul Haque Jyoti, Ms Amina Bilkis Moyna, Mr. Sharifulah Kaiser Sumon, Mr. Ekobbar Hossain, Ms. Jyotsna Dutta along with others participated the meeting. Former Professor Mozaffar Hossain presides the meeting at Bagerhat district. Mukherjee Rabindra Nath, Adv. Parveen Ahmed, Sardar Anshar, Md. Kamal Hossain, Ahad Uddin Haider, Sheikh Ajmal Hossain, Mr. Azadul Haque, Ms. Nadira Akram, Adv. Milon Kumar Banerjee, Ms. Nasrin Rahman, Ms. Liza Akhter, Ms. Sharifa Khanam and others participate in the meeting. Finally, a 16 member’s advocacy forum have been formed in both district.
