12 November, the historic day for coastal communities of Bangladesh. 1.2 million people has been died at 12 November 1970 in Bhola cyclone. The civil society are demanding to declare the 12 November as Coastal Day for Bangladesh to remember the tragic and historic day. This year, the day has been observed widely in Bangladesh. LEDARS lead this campaign in Satkhira and organize 3 human chain and mass gathering in Shyamnagar and Assasuni sub-district where thousands of vulnerable people attended.
The vulnerable people of Satkhira district demand to declare the 12 November as ‘Coastal Day’ to commemorate the demise of lives of ‘Bhola Cyclone. Speakers at the meeting demand to declaring November 12 as Coastal Day, including demand to declaring the southwest coastal region a disaster-prone area, forming a coastal development board, etc. to protect the coast communities. Freedom fighter Md. Nazrul Islam was chair of the Shyamnagar event. Besides this, Md. Jahangir Alam, journalist Masum Billah, Ruhul Amin Gazi, Md. Ayub Ali, Debabrat Gain, Ms. Naznine nahar, Ms. Mili Mondal, Mr. Poritosh Baidya, Mr. Subroto Ray along with other present at the event. At the end of the event a rally has lead organized lead by local youth.
