Climate change is one of the biggest challenges for humanity today. Bangladesh ranks third among the countries most affected by the disaster. Due to climate change, Bangladesh faces slow onset disaster like salinity increase in soil and water. Along with this, irregular rainfall and drought worsen the situation and farmers could not cultivate traditional rice. Though Government has declared some variety of rice are stress tolerant, but unavailability of that stress tolerant seed make the coastal people hopeless. To faster the resilient agriculture practices, LEDARS is working with farmers to produce rice in their field. LEDARS organized a two-day long training on the rice seed production at 14 & 15 December 2020 under SLSCCVP project where total 21 farmers attended.
The training has been facilitated by Md. Eqbal Hossain, Assistant Director (Seed Production) of BADC (SP), Satkhira, S.M. Enamul Islam, Agriculture Officer of Shyamnagar Upazila, Md. Jamal Hossain, Sub-Assistance Agriculture Officer and Ranajit Mondal, PC LEDARS. LEDARS providing financial support to the farmers to produce and preserve seed in scientific way.
