World Environment Day observed enthusiastically with the slogan work together to stop plastic pollution (Sobai Mile Kori Pon, Bondho Hobe Plastic Dushon)’ on last June 05, 2023 at Akashlina Eco Tourism Park, Kolbari, Burigoalini Union of Shyamnagar Uapzila under Satkhira district organized by LEDARS in association with CCDB, Shushilan, Caritas Bangladesh and CNRS. To beat plastic pollution, a discussion meeting with an exceptional cultural program was organized to observe the day where the Chief Guest was Mr. Sayeed-uz-Zaman Sayeed, Upazila Vice Chairman while the special guests were Asim Kumar Mridha, Chairman of Munshigonj Union Parishad, Alhaz Nazrul Islam Gazi, Chairman of Burigoalini Union Parishad respectively. The program was presided over by Mohon Kumar Mondal, Executive Director of LEDARS, and addressed by others Mr. A K Iqbal Hossain, Range Officer, Burigoalini Forest Office, Md. Robiul Islam, Officer in charge, Tourist Police, Shyamnagar, S M Monwar Hossain, Project Manager of CCDB, Dr. Sumon Kumar Malakar, Program Officer of Caritas Bangladesh, Mr. Sazzad Hosaain Sazu, Upazila Manager, Shushilan, Shahidul Islam, Member of Burigoalini UP, Abdul Halim, President of Sundarban Press Club among others.
The Chief Guest expressed with emotion ‘Give back the forest and take back the city. Let’s plant more trees and reduce the usage of polythene to protect the environment as well as to protect Sundarbans. Let’s build a beautiful environment for our future generations.’ All the guests emphasized using jute mats, sacks, and low-cost baskets instead of using polythene bags and materials. At the closing, the Chair of the program expressed acknowledgment to all the organizations for their solidarity with this event. He also emphasized for the involvement of international leaders coherently to mitigate climate change effects and to conserve the environmental balance. The exceptional cultural event was presented by the recitation and singing of lyrical songs with environmental messages apparently. At the end, waste-bin distributed among 20 Tourists Boat and prizes were distributed among the winning students of the drawing competition on Environment Development. A total of 5 hundred people from different professions attended the program.
