LEDARS organized two day-long capacity-building training for the members of Agriculture Standing Committee of Union Parishad (UP) at its Head Office on last 18-19 June 2023. 30 members of 5 UPs from Shyamnagar and Koyra upazila attended the training. The training was facilitated respectively by Md. Nazmul Huda, Upazila Agriculture Officer of Shyamnagar upazila and Md. Jamal Hossain, Sub-assistant Agriculture Officer of Shyamnagar Upazila of Satkhira district.
The opening ceremony of this training program was presided over by Mr. Mohon Kumar Mondal, Executive Director of LEDARS while the Chief Guest was Mr. Asim Kumar Mridha, Chairman of Munshigonj Union. The training also addressed by others including Mr. Alim Al Razi, Program Manager, Mr. Koushik Roy, Knowledge and Research Manager, and Mr. Moniruzzaman Moni, MEAL Officer of LEADERS. The training was focused on ongoing agricultural activities of LEDARS, local context in line with climate change and problem identification, role and responsibilities of the agriculture standing committee, procedures of service delivery of the committee, cultivation of stress-tolerant crops, and use of organic fertilizers, pest management, and weed control. The training also facilitates to prepare of their Union wise action plan by dividing them into five groups. The Chief Guest says ‘The Standing Committee on Agriculture of UP plays an important role in making the agricultural system sustainable. The committee cooperates with local farmers by establishing linkages and coordination with various agricultural service providers. They also work to bring communities together to deal with adverse situations by developing their own skills and abilities through mutual exchange of experiences.’ The training was organized by Strengthening Livelihood Security of Climate Change Vulnerable People (SLSCCVP) project by the support of Bread for the World.
