Life skills development and income-generating training program of the marginal population of the Sundarbans area was inaugurated on 19 August 2023 organized at the Knowledge Management Center of LEDARS. The Chief Guest of this event was Md. Firoz Shah, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General), Khulna while the Special Guests were Mr. Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Deputy Commissioner of Satkhira district, Mr. Abu Syed Md. Manzoor Alam, D.S. and Project Director of Khulna City Administrative Convention Center Construction Project, Khulna. This inauguration event was presided over by Md. Akhter Hossain, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Shyamnagar Upazila of Satkhira and was moderated by Mr. Mr. Mohan Kumar Mondal, Executive Director of LEDARS. This 6 daylong training program was organized by LEDARS.
Honorable Chief Guest Md. Feroz Shah said, “Through this training, opportunities will be created to improve the quality of life and increase the income of the marginalized people of the Sundarbans area. More such trainings will be organized in future so that more people would be able to change their life and livelihoods”. A total of 32 participants including 21 women and 11 men from Gabura, Munshigonj, Burigoalini and Atulia union participated in this training. Upazila Agricultural Officer, Upazila Fisheries Officer of Shyamnagar Upazila, Upazila Livestock Officer, Mr. Ranjit Kumar Mondal, Senior Trainer, Koushik Roy, Knowledge and Research Manager of LEDARS and successful Farmers and Producers respectively facilitated the whole training courses. In order to enhance the quality of life of the marginalized people in the Sundarbans area, this training has contributed enough to increase their skills and technical knowledge in carrying out their alternative income-generating activities at their family level.
On the other hand, the closing ceremony of this alternative income generating training program was held on 24 August 2023 while the Chief Guest was Md. Akhter Hossain, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Shyamnagar, Satkhira. This event was presided over by Mr. Ranjit Kumar Barman, Senior Teacher and Executive Member of LEDARS while the Special Guest was Md. Nazmul Huda, Upazila Agriculture Officer, Shyamnagar, Satkhira. At the end, the Chief Guest distributed the certificates among the trainees of this program. This 6 daylong training program on alternative income generating activities for the marginal people of Sundarban areas was organized under the project of Khulna Administrative Building Construction Project and supported by LEDARS to implement this training program.
