LEDARS organized a day-long Orientation on Standing orders on Disaster and Women Friendly Shelter Management under the Community-based Resilience, Women’s Empowerment and Action (CREA) project supported by Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) and the Embassy of Sweden. On December 26, 2023, the orientation program was organized at the training venue of LEDARS to review together the role and responsibilities regarding Women Friendly Shelter Management. All the members of Union Disaster Management Committee (UDMC) of Burigoalini Union Parishad participated in this program.
The orientation program was presided over by Hazi Nazrul Islam, Chairman and President of UDMC of Burigoalini Union Parishad. Mr. Ranajit Kumar Barman, Acting Executive Director of LEDARS along with Md. Alim Al Razi, Program Manager and Mr. Asit Mondal, Administrative Officer of LEDARS were present in this orientation program. The orientation was jointly moderated by Md. Arifur Rahman, Project Coordinator and Sulta Rani Saha, Project Officer of CREA Project. The orientation program on Women Friendly Shelter Management covers different topics related to disaster, SoD, effective gender and vulnerable people friendly shelter management etc.
All the participants went through group works separately into different groups, and group works were presented at their exercise. At the end of the discussion, the participants in the orientation prepared a women-friendly shelter management plan. Mr. Ranajit Kumar Barman, Acting Executive Director of LEDARS delivered his speeches at the closing ceremony of the orientation. At the end, Haji Nazrul Islam, the honorable Chairman of Burigoalini UP appreciated the orientation on women-friendly shelter management organized by LEDARS as a timely initiative. He also anticipated that every participant will apply their learning from this orientation to deal with disasters.
