Bangladesh is a climate hotspot country. Bangladesh’s geographical location makes it one of the top 10 countries most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. The coastal areas of south-western part of Bangladesh are the most vulnerable among them. The members of Bagerhat Climate Advocacy Forum demanded urgent action to resolve this crisis in the coastal area. This demand was raised in the Half Yearly Coordination Meeting organized by the Bagerhat District Climate Advocacy Forum in collaboration with LEDARS at Udayan Bangladesh, at 10.00 am on Saturday (January 27).
The meeting was chaired by the President of the forum, Advocate Sharifa Khanam. Forum Vice President Mukherjee Rabindranath, Secretary Md Asaduzzaman Sheikh, Treasurer Md Ajmal Hossain, Vice President Kakali Sarkar, Members and Journalists Ashraful Islam Monir, Azadul Haque, Advocate Luna Siddiqui, Syed Shawkat Hossain, Israt Jahan, Ali Akbar Tutul, MA Salam Sheikh, SK Hasib, Sheikh, Ajmal Hossain, Kamal Hossain, and so on were also present in the meeting.
Highlighting the current state of the coast in the meeting, the speakers said that climate change is one of the biggest challenges for humanity today. The southwest coastal region of Bangladesh is most vulnerable to this climate change. In this situation, a long-term master plan is needed to protect the south-west coastal area by declaring this area as a special area. They also said that since the climate crisis is a threat to humanity, it is necessary to take urgent measures to prevent the consequences of this climate change. Speakers at the meeting expressed hope that the newly elected government will take an effective role in solving the coastal crisis and play an important role in protecting the environment.
In addition, some action plans were adopted in the meeting to fight climate change. The forum hopes that the plans discussed in the meeting will play an effective role in protecting the rights of the coastal people.
