To address the crisis of safe drinking water, a pipeline water supply system has been inaugurated across a five-kilometer area in Shyamnagar, Satkhira. On Wednesday, March 27, the water supply initiative, implemented by LEDARS, was officially inaugurated by SM Ataul Haque Dolon, Member of Parliament for Satkhira-4, through a pipeline constructed in Uttar Kadamtala with funding from donor agencies Swisscontact Bangladesh and the Zayed Sustainability Prize of the United Arab Emirates.

The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Shyamnagar Upazila Executive Officer Najibul Alam. In his speech, SM Ataul Haque Dolon stated, “Several initiatives have been taken by both the government and non-government sectors to resolve the safe water crisis in this saline coastal area. However, most of the efforts rely on rainwater. In this situation, providing safe drinking water through a pipeline is a timely initiative. This will benefit the people across the five-kilometer area.”

Other speakers at the inauguration event included LEDARS Executive Director Mohon Kumar Mondal, Swisscontact Bangladesh’s H2O Project Manager Md. Sauduzzaman Pulak, LEDARS President and freedom fighter Md. Nazrul Islam, and Sundarban Girls’ School Assistant Teacher Ranjit Kumar Barman.
