Dialogue with Service Delivery Institutions in Shyamnagar

LEDARS organized a dialogue with upazila service delivery institutions under the Community Based Climate Resilience and Women’s Empowerment (CREA) project by the support of Manusher Jonno Foundation and the Embassy of Sweden. Mr. Md. Asaduzzaman, Assistant Commissioner (Land), Shyamnagar Upazila was present as the chief guest at Upazila Parishad Hall Room venue on November 14, 2023. The Dialogue was presided over by Bir Muktijoddha Nazrul Islam, Chairman of LEDARS.  Md. Arifur Rahman, Project Coordinator, CREA Project, LEDARS, conducted the dialogue session. Md. Alim Al Razi, Program Manager, LEDARS, delivered a welcome speech at this event while Mr. Md. Nazmul Huda, Upazila Agriculture Officer, was present as special guest.

In this dialogue, Mr. Sharid Bin Shafiq, Upazila Women Affairs Officer;  Mr. Tushar Mujumdar, Senior Fisheries Officer; Mr. S. A. Azizul Islam, Youth Development Officer; Mr. Aminul Islam, Upazila Accounts Officer; Pranab Biswas of One Stop Crisis Cell, Md. Sakhawat Hossain, Sub Inspector of Shyamnagar Police Station; Mr. Mina Habibur Rahman, Upazila Academic Supervisor; Dr. Subrata Kumar Biswas, Veterinary Surgeon; Mr. Al Imran, Convener of NGO Coordination Parishad; Chandrika Banerjee, Executive Director of Nakshikantha; Mst. Rahima Begum, representative of Jatiya Mohila Shamiti; Mr. Yasin Arafat, Branch Manager of BRAC; media workers and staff of other service delivery institutions participated in the discussion of this dialogue. Mr. Md. Asaduzzaman said that many NGOs are working in this region. If the government and non-government institutions can work together, the quality of life of the people affected by the climate will be accelerated. He assured full cooperation in the activities of LEDARS and CREA Project. Mr. Md. Nazmul Huda, special guest said that various government activities are ongoing in climate-tolerant agriculture. CREA project should pay attention that the same beneficiary would not get the service twice and some are not deprived of it. If necessary, you will take information from the agriculture office to avoid overlapping.

All the speakers of the dialogue offered directions to encourage the concerned service providers to deliver quality services to the common people affected by the adverse effects of the climate in the coastal areas, especially the backward women.  To create a positive environment between service delivery and service receipt, and to increase awareness about the service receiving process among the service recipients are also addressed in the dialogue. Representatives of various government and non-government service delivery institutions in Shyamnagar highlighted the importance of working together to reduce the risk of climate change-affected people in Shyamnagar.
