Ensuring Equal Wages Sensitization Meeting held at Burigoalini Union of Shyamnagar

Sensitization meeting was held with the representatives of the local government and civil society to ensure equal wages in the shrimp farm on September 12, 2023 at Burigoalini Union Parishad hall room under the project Empowering Women through Civil Society Actors in Bangladesh (EWCSA) funded by Oxfam Bangladesh and European Union. The meeting was presided over Mr. GM Abdur Rauf, Panel Chairman of Burigolaini Union while Mr. Mohon Kumar Mondal, Executive Director of LEDARS delivered welcome speech. Mr. Sowmitra Joardar, Head Master, Arpangasia Secondary School, Mr. Abdullah Al Baki, renowned Social Activist and Members of LEDARS, Md. Robiul Islam, Mr. Bikash Mondal, Mr. Mukunda Paik, UP Members of Burigoalini Union Parishad were participated as invited guest. The meeting also addressed others includes representatives of Teachers, Physicians, Businessmen, Social Activists, Journalists and Women Shrimp Workers. The meeting was facilitated by Md. Alim Al Razi, Program Manager, Tomalika Molick, Advocacy Officer, Debbrota Gain, Program Officer of LEDARS where a total of 40 representatives from local government and civil society participated and contributed by their valuable opinion to ensure equal wages in the shrimp farm. The President of this meeting emphasized the issue of increasing their wages of the women shrimp workers should be given importance to the shrimp farm owners and civil society representatives considering the present situation. He also urged to the shrimp farm owners to arrange toilet facilities for the women shrimp workers. At the end, the representatives of the shrimp farm owner assure all to increase the wage of the women shrimp workers as well as to ensure the toilet facilities gradually.
