LEDARS organized Human Chain to observe Global Day of Climate Action on September 15, 2023 with the slogan ‘We must end the era of fossil fuels’ at Akashleena Eco Tourism Park under Burigoalini Union of Shyamnagar, Satkhira. The Human Chain was organized under the Community based Resilience Women’s Empowerment and Action (CREA) Project supported by Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) where Climate Action Group of Burigoalini and Gabura Unions, Youth Group, Adolescent Groups, journalists, and LEDARS’ staff participated.
All the speakers of the Human Chain proclaimed to ensure commitment of the rich countries and to demand greater government and international action for climate justice. They raised their voice as we have low greenhouse gas emissions and do not contribute to global warming; we are in favor of adopting renewable energy without harming the nation’s economy and employment. They demanded to end the era of fossil fuels recommending renewable fuels instead. They claim that rich countries will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by adopting abundant renewable fuels, and that poor or those not responsible for climate change, such as Bangladesh, will adopt renewable fuels without hindering their development. By the moderation of Tomalika Mollick, Advocacy Officer of LEDARS, Shahidul Islam, Shubra Rani, Dilip Majhi, and Tanushree Rani, Team Members, Burigoalini Union Climate Action Group, delivered their speech in the human chain. The human chain ended with the closing speech of Alim Al Razi, Program Manager of LEDARS. At the same time, the initiatives taken to deal with climate change should be integrated with the policies, strategies, and plans of each country to deal with climate change.
