Half-yearly Coordination Meeting of Upazila Climate Advocacy Forum of Koyra was held on September 18, 2023 at Sundarbon Secondary Girls School of Koyra. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Khairul Alom, President of Koyra Climate Advocacy Forum and was moderated by Tomalika Mollick, Advocacy Officer of LEADRS. The meeting also addressed others including Mr. Sujit Kumar Roy, Vice-president of the Forum, Md. Humayun Kabir, General Secretary and Mr. Harun-or-Rashid, Joint Secretary, and Md. Jahid Hasan, Executive Member of the Forum. The meeting reviewed and analyzed their previous 6 month’s action plan and also discussed about the next 6 month’s action plan of this Forum. All the speakers of this meeting emphasized advocacy initiatives focusing climate change. Simultaneously, they emphasized to include some demands for the development of the people of the south-west coastal region in the election manifesto of political parties one the eve of upcoming 12th National Parliament Election.
Mr. Khairul Alam, President of this Forum pointed out that climate change is one of the biggest challenges for humanity in the present context. The southwest coastal region of Bangladesh is most vulnerable to this climate change. He emphasized to undertake long-term initiatives by declaring this area as a special area or a disaster risk area immediately. Mr. Nurul Mostafa Kamal, Project Coordinator and Mr. Moniruzzaman, Monitoring officer of LEDARS were also present in this meeting. An action plan of the forum for the next 6 months was prepared through this meeting.
