LEDARS organized half yearly meeting with Upazila Legal Aid Committee at Shyamnagar Upazila Parishad Hall Room, Shyamnagar, Satkhira venue on November 29, 2023 under the Community-based Resilient Women’s Empowerment and Action (CREA) project supported by Manusher Jonno Foundation and the Embassy of Sweden.
Mr. S.M. Ataul Haque Dolon as the Chief Guest and Mr. Aktar Hossain, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Shyamnagar, Satkhira were present at the meeting as a special guest. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Saiduzzaman Sayeed, Upazila Chairman (acting) of Shyamnagar Upazila Parishad and Honorable President of Upazila Legal Aid Committee. He greeted and congratulated all present and gave permission to start the proceedings of the meeting. Sulata Rani Saha, Project Officer of CREA Project of LEDARS conducted the meeting. Mr. Md. Arifur Rahman, the Project Coordinator, delivered a welcome speech. In the meeting Nargis Parveen, a member ofUpazila Legal Aid Committee said that the government has appointed a lawyer in the upazila to provide legal assistance to the helpless poor people of the village, our job is to help the people of the village to get this legal assistance. Mst. KhaledaAyub Dolly, Upazila Women Vice Chairman and member of Upazila Legal Aid Committee said that awareness should be raised among those deprived of legal aid through the Legal Aid Committee.
There was an open discussion session in the meeting. Members of the Upazila Legal Aid Committee shared their opinions on how to activate the committee. At the end of the meeting Mr. Saiduzzaman Sayeed, the President of the meeting said that the monthly meeting organized by the LEDARS today with the Upazila Legal Aid Committee deserves appreciation. Indeed it is our meeting. LEDARS has supported us in activating the meeting. I believe this committee will perform its duties more actively through today’s meeting.
