LEDARS distributed 11,480 kg of paddy seeds and 9,148 kg of fertilizer among 1,148 farmers to encourage in cultivating stress-tolerant varieties of rice during Amon season in the coastal areas at LEDARS’s head office on July 06, 2023. The distribution event was inaugurated by the S. M. Jaglul Hayder, Honorable MP of Shyamnagar, Stakhira-4 while the Special Guests were Md. Nazmul Huda, Upazila Agriculture Officer, Shyamnagar Upazila, and Mr. Maruf Hossain Milon, President of Online News Club respectively. The distribution event was presided over by Mr. Mohon Kumar Mondal, Executive Director of LEDARS, and moderated by Tahsina Siraz, Project Officer of LEDARS. The event was also addressed among by others including Mohammad Ali, Journalist, Officials of LEDARS, and the farmers of Iswaripur and Munshigoj union. Each farmer received 10 kgs of stress-tolerant rice seeds and 8 kgs of fertilizers to cultivate stress-tolerant rice during this Amon season. The seed has been distributed under Strengthening Livelihood Security of Climate Change Vulnerable People (SLSCCVP) project by the support of Bread for the World.
The Chief Guest says “LEDARS have been providing farmers various technologies, seeds, fertilizers, and technical support in every year. As a continuation of this, LEDARS is supporting the coastal farmers this year as well. I am expressing my gratitude to LEDARS for standing by the farmers”. He urged farmers to increase production through these seeds. Special congratulations given by him to Mr. Mohan Kumar Mondal, Executive Director of LEDARS with the members of the LEDARS family for recently receiving the Zayed Sustainability Prize-2023 from the United Arab Emirates.
