LEDARS organized a full-day orientation on the management of women-friendlyshelters was conducted in Shyamnagar, Satkhira on 26 December 2023. Thisorientation focused on the standing orders related to disaster management and women-friendly shelter practices as part of the Community-based Resilience Women’sEmpowerment and Action (CREA) project. The initiative was supported by theManusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) and the Embassy of Sweden.Objective of the program was to familiarize participants, particularly members of theUnion Disaster Management Committee (UDMC) of Gabura Union, with theirresponsibilities and duties concerning women-friendly shelter management. Md. ArifurRahman, Project Coordinator, and Ms. Sulata Rani Saha, Project Officer of the CREAProject, facilitated the orientation. The topics covered included the Disaster-DisasterManagement Circle, Disaster Management in Cluster Method, SoD, effective gender,and management friendly to vulnerable individuals.During the session, UDMC members engaged in group work, dividing into differentgroups, and subsequently presented their findings. The orientation concluded with theparticipants devising a plan for women-friendly shelter management. Mr. Mohon KumarMondal, Executive Director of LEDARS, attended the closing ceremony, urging thepractical application of the learned principles in the field. Mr. Azijur Rahman, Secretaryof UDMC Gabura Union Parishad, commended the timely and valuable orientation,emphasizing its significance in dealing with disasters if the insights gained areeffectively applied.
