The members of the Satkhira Climate Advocacy Forum have demanded integrated and urgent action to solve the crisis in the coastal areas. This demand was raised in the half-yearly coordination meeting organized by the Satkhira District Climate Advocacy Forum in collaboration with LEDARS at 11.00 am on Sunday (January 28) morning at Swadesh Meeting Room, Katia, Satkhira.
The meeting was chaired by the president of the forum Prof. Md. Abdul Hamid. Forum member secretary Madhav Chandra Dutta, Abul Kalam Azad, Farida Akhtar Beauty, Sheikh Afzal Hossain, Jotsna Dutta, Maqbul Hossain, Ekobbar Hossain, Sharifullah Kaiser Sumon, Tahmina Islam and many others were also present in the meeting. All the speakers agreed that climate change is causing serious hazards for the lives and livelihoods of the marginalized people. The south-west coastal region of Bangladesh is suffering the most for this climate change. In this situation, integrated plan is needed to protect the south-west coastal area. They also said that since the climate crisis is a threat to humanity, there is a need for unity of all to face the challenge of climate change. In this context, it was decided in the meeting that a discussion meeting will be organized together with the newly elected MPs in Satkhira. Speakers at the meeting expressed hope that the newly elected government will take an effective role in solving the coastal crisis and play an important role in protecting the coast. In addition, some action plans for the next 6 months were adopted in the meeting to address climate change.
