Seed distribution for resilient agriculture in southwest Bangladesh

LEDARS has distributed saline, flood and drought tolerant paddy seed for Amon (rainy season) crop in Satkhira district. A total of 5600kg paddy seed has been distributed among 490 small holders farmers of Munshigong, Burigoalini, Kashimari and Gabura Union in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira district. The traditional paddy seed often fail in the current monsoon variability in this area.

LEDARS implementing a project entitled “Strengthen Livelihood Security of Climate Change Vulnerable People” by the support of German based donor organization Bread for the World. The main objective of the project is to building capacity to cope with adverse situation of climate change. LEDARS is supporting 820 families to resilient agriculture and livelihoods. The saline, flood and drought tolerant seeds like BINA 7, BINA 10, BRRI 41, 44, 49, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, etc. distributed to introduce new paddy seed with their traditional seed cultivation practice. The seed distribution ceremony organized in25 and 30 June 2015. Chief Guest of the event was SM. Mizan Mahamud, Upazilla Agriculture officer. Chairman of Munsgigonj Union Md. Abul Kashem, Mohon Kumar Mondal, Executive Director of LEDARS, Mozirul Islam Mithu, Project Coordinator, Asit Mondal, Ranajit Kumar Mondal, Showkat Hossain were present there. The ceremony was presided over by Dalim Kumar Gharami, treasurer of LEDARS.
