The drinking water crisis is one of the severe problems in the coastal area of Bangladesh. LEDARS has been working to resolve the drinking water crisis for since last two decades. The Sundarbans Community Drinking Water Plant was established in the Munshigong union of Shyamnagar upazila, Satkhira district. The water treatment plan has been inaugurated by Md. Akther Hossain, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Shyamnagar, on June 01, 2023. Mr. Asim Kumar Mridha, Chairman of Munshigonj Union Parishad, Md. Pulak Hasan, Manager of Swisscontact, and Shilpi Rani Mridha, Member of Satkhira Zila Parishad were attended as special guest of the inauguration ceremony. Mr. Mohon Kumar Mondal, Executive Director of LEDARS has presided over this event. The plant was installed under H2O: A Systemic Water Entrepreneurship Project in Bangladesh project implemented together by Swisscontact and LEDARS so that the community people will get WHO standards quality water from this plant. This plant is being operated by using renewable energy. An automatic water ATM has also been installed in this plant so that community people can collect hassle-free water 24 hours by using ATM cards and coins. A total 180 participants including group members of the project, NGO activists, media, and community people attended the inauguration ceremony.
