LEDARS organized a workshop on the Formation of Women Shrimp Workers Alliance at its head office on July 12, 2023, under the project Empowering Women through Civil Society Actors in Bangladesh (EWCSA) funded by Oxfam Bangladesh and European Union. S. M. Ataul Haque Dolon, Upazila Chairman, Shyamnagar Upazila Parishad inaugurated the event. The inaugural session was presided over by Mohan Kumar Mondal, Executive Director of LEDARS. The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Ashek-e- Elahi, Former Principal of Atarjan Women College, Editer of Daily Dakhiner Moshal along with Alim Al Razi, Program Manager-LEDARS, Debbrata Kumar Gayen, Program Officer-LEDARS also facilitated the workshop. The Chief Guest expressed “women workers in the shrimp farm do not get the same wages as men, but they work equally. We agree with the demand of equal wages for women, the Upazila Parishad will always be with the women shrimp workers in this matter. At the end of the workshop a Women Shrimp Workers Alliance has been formed comprising of 11 members. . The Alliance made a workplan for 2023 year. The committee took worth to reduce injustice on women shrimp workers and support the movement to ensure the rights and entitlement of the women shrimp workers.
