Shyamnagar Upazila Youth Forum and Sundarban Upkul Surokha Andolon demanded safe drinking water and sustainable embankment in coastal area at the human chain organized in January 15, 2022 in front of Shyamnagar Upazila press club. The event was presided over by Freedom Fighter Mr. Nazrul Islam.

The impact of climate change is increasing at an increasing due to global warming. High tides have caused south-west coastal embankments to collapse, creating salt water, human, livelihood, resources, food, water, shelter and other crises. Due to cyclone Yaas on 26 May 2021, Shyamnagar, Asashuni, Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira district, Koyra and Paikgachha upazilas of Khulna district and Sharankhola, Moralganj and Mongla upazilas of Bagerhat district have been flooded. Due to high tide and high tide in the monsoon season, the embankment is likely to be broken and flooded again. As a result, human life, livelihood, resources, food, water, housing and other crises will increase. To reduce the crisis of coastal people the human chain has been organized. The speakers urged to the Government authorities to establish sustainable embankment and ensure safe water for the vulnerable south west coastal people. Mr. SM Zahid Sumon, Secretary, Shyamnagar Press Club, Mr. Muminur Rahman, Convener, Upazila Youth Forum and other CSO and social worker delivered speech at the event.
