Bangladesh, particularly its southwest region, is among the most vulnerable areas to the adverse impacts of global warming and climate change. Communities in the region face recurring challenges such as salinity intrusion, storm surges, and cyclones, making these areas critical climate hotspots. These conditions disrupt livelihoods and deepen socio-economic vulnerabilities. However, despite their resilience, local communities often lack the knowledge and tools needed to adapt effectively to these hostile conditions. Recognizing the need for a comprehensive approach to build long-term resilience, LEDARS has prioritized empowering these communities through targeted knowledge management initiatives.
To address this, LEDARS established a Knowledge Management Center equipped with a library, laboratory, training hall, and dormitory facilities. This center serves as a hub for climate adaptation learning and innovation, offering regular sessions to enhance local understanding of climate change, negotiation strategies, and adaptive technologies. The center also provides hands-on training on using innovative tools and techniques for sustainable livelihoods. By bridging gaps in climate literacy and technological know-how, LEDARS ensures that climate- vulnerable communities are better prepared to navigate the challenges posed by global warming and climate change. This initiative fosters a culture of knowledge-sharing, empowering communities to adapt and thrive amidst adversity.
LEDARS developed a Center for Knowledge management in its Head Office campus. It is a space for Physical library, conference center, laboratory, dormitory to facilitate the knowledge management activities. Young researchers can utilize this infrastructure for conducting research activities, findings sharing session, reading and other purposes.
Develop a comprehensive digital archive that consolidates climate change-related knowledge, including research papers, case studies, and best practices. This archive will be accessible to researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to enhance evidence-based decision-making.
In the campus of Knowledge Management Center, a technology display center establish to demonstrate the viable technology and conduct action research. Utilizing demonstration plots at the KMC to test and showcase sustainable agricultural adaptation technologies. These plots will serve as live examples for community members and stakeholders to learn about innovative practices for climate resilience.
Conduct orientation and training programs for youths, students and young researchers to build awareness and skills related to climate change issues. Equip them to become advocates and implementers of sustainable practices within their communities, creating a proactive future generation.
LEDARS is providing scholarship to the young researchers to conduct their research work practically. The scholarship money can be used to conduction of research. Young researchers can use the dormitory with 50% discount with modern facilities. LEDARS call for application twice in a year for the scholarship.
The Knowledge Management Center is offering low-cost affordable training for the young professionals. LEDARS developed a three month long executive short course for the development activist and young professionals. Interested candidate can apply for the course. Renowned climate change expert conducts the sessions.
As part of the knowledge dissemination, LEDARS developing awareness materials like Crop Calendar, Newsletter, Flipchart, etc. to educate stakeholders on climate adaptation strategies and KMC initiatives.
