Background
Last above two decades LEDARS is involved with climate change programs. LEDARS started its Climate Change Program in partnership with CARE Bangladesh by implementing RVCC project since 2003. The LEDARS Climate Action document presents a comprehensive, community-centered approach to addressing climate change impacts in the vulnerable southwest coastal regions of Bangladesh. It highlights how climate-induced disasters, salinity, and livelihood loss are affecting marginalized populations, despite the country’s minimal contribution to global emissions. In response, LEDARS implements integrated interventions that combine community organization, awareness building, climate-resilient agriculture, safe water and sanitation (WASH), and diversified livelihood support focusing on Nature Based Solution (NbS) and Locally Led Adaptation (LLA). The initiative also emphasizes climate justice by empowering local communities to advocate for their rights and influence policy, while addressing climate-induced loss and damage through resilient infrastructure, recovery support, and anticipatory actions. Additionally, it promotes blue carbon ecosystems through mangrove restoration and sustainable resource management, ensuring both environmental protection and community rights. Knowledge management, research, and capacity-building initiatives further strengthen resilience and innovation, making LEDARS’ climate action a holistic model for sustainable development and adaptation in high-risk coastal areas.
